Poetry reading

Posted on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 in Uncategorized

Triskaidekaphobics, forget your fear: Make an exception and come on out to support my writing!

On Friday, February 13th at 7 pm, I will be doing a poetry and book reading in Westminster.

You may recall that, in the olden days (circa 2005), I was part of the Pour House’s “Gentle Poet” series - we hosted a featured poet on the third Saturday of every month, and then allowed for some open mic time. Well, the Pour House is gone, but the tradition lives on at the art studio of a personal friend of mine.

The reading will be at Susan Beverly Studio and Gallery, located at 101 E. Main Street in Westminster. I’ll read for about an hour, from 7 to 8 pm, and then do a brief Q&A if anyone has any questions, comments, or things they’d like to discuss about poetry, novel writing, publication or editing. The event should be over by 8:30.

There are no beverages or food served at the studio, but you can bring in your own, and once the reading ends, there are several places within walking distance to get anything you need.

Also, there will be no open mic for this reading - it will be just me this time. But if you’d like to come out and support me and my writing, I’d love to see you. This is my first reading since 2006, so I’m really looking forward to sharing my new works, as well as excerpts from my two novels, “How to Ride a Bike” and “The Keeper of the Key.”

It’s free to attend, but small donations are welcome and encouraged to keep the studio up and running.

So, I hope to see a lot of you there, and if you think you can make it, please let me know!

Up and running

The Red-Green Illusion is now mostly put together and, as of this moment, is open for business!  I will continue to update with poems, songs, stories, and other pieces of information as the days pass, but for the most part, this site is complete.  Feel free to contact me with questions or comments about anything that you may stumble across here.

I will also start using this blog more frequently, though I will still continue to use Live Journal as my main blogging site.  I may transfer some of those Live Journal posts over to here, however, so those who do not have a Live Journal can read about some of the things going on in my life.

So, look around, read, and enjoy!  And again, please contact me if need be, either by leaving a comment on the Web site (by clicking on the “comments” box) or by e-mailing me at mandi@theredgreenillusion.com.

The dawning of a new era

Posted on Friday, January 23, 2009 in Uncategorized

Welcome to The Red-Green Illusion. I’m still working on making this site (and, especially, this blog) useful and respectable; until that day arrives, feel free to search through my links, read my bio, and discover what The Red-Green Illusion is under the “About” header.

For now, I leave you with a quote which sums up the general reason why this site exists:

“If you take someones thoughts and feelings away, bit by bit, consistently, then they have nothing left, except some gritty, gnawing, shitty little instinct, down there, somewhere, worming round the gut, but so far down, so hidden, it’s impossible to find. Imagine, if you will, a worldwide conspiracy to deny the existence of the color yellow and whenever you saw yellow they told you no, that isn’t yellow, what the fuck’s yellow? Eventually, whenever you saw yellow, you would say: That isn’t yellow, course, it isn’t blue or green or purple, or… you’d say it, yes it is, it’s yellow, and become increasingly hysterical, and then go quite berserk.”
